Leslie Billman's career as a photographer began
at the heels of her grandfather, a dentist and freelance photographer.
She learned photo techniques and development and printing of film
in his darkroom, and as a teenager used some of his cast-off equipment
to equip her own darkroom. She first sold photos in high school,
and took pictures for the yearbook and school newspaper. Her interest
in photography has expanded into the realm of color photography,
and she has most recently begun working almost exclusively with
a digital camera. Her work has been published nationally. Her images
include graceful sailboats, colorful landscapes, candid portraits
of children and pets, and she has developed a large collection
of micro-photography from the world of nature. Her work is presently
being shown at the Chesapeake Photo Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland,
where she resides with her husband.
